The Colorado Rockies opened their first home in Denver on Friday, marking the team’s first visit to the Rocky Mountains since the team was moved to Colorado Springs from St. Louis in 1962.
The opening game of the 2018-19 season, which the Rockies are scheduled to host at Coors Field on Oct. 16, marks the first-ever home game for the team and will mark the first road game for Colorado Springs since 2002.
The Rockies also announced the arrival of former NHL All-Star, former Calgary Flames defenseman, former Edmonton Oilers defenseman, current New York Islanders goaltender, and former Arizona Coyotes forward, Jarome Iginla.
“It’s great to be back home,” said Colorado Springs Avalanche forward Gabriel Landeskog, who will become the first player from the NHL’s Colorado Springs franchise to play in the city.

Tickets for the 2018 Winter Classic are available through Ticketmaster or the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, with a limited number of tickets available for purchase at the Denver Zoo.
The 2018-2019 season will mark a new chapter for Colorado, who had just lost four players to the NHL draft.
The club will also mark the team first season in the American Hockey League (AHL), which includes all 30 teams in the National Hockey League.
