The Irish news service has reported that tourism revenue from New Hampshire in 2018 fell $9.4 million, compared to $15.6 million the year before, due to the damage from Hurricane Matthew.
The loss of business in the state’s tourism sector was the largest in the country.
Tourism revenue from the state was down $9 million in 2018, compared with $15 million the previous year.
The state is also the only US state to not be hit by a major hurricane this year.
Mr Kelly said that in 2018 tourism was experiencing its slowest year on record, which was also due to Hurricane Matthew, as well as a drop in business.
He said tourism was the second-largest industry in New Hampshire, after agriculture, and its importance was not just in terms of tourism but also in terms to the economy.
He also said that although tourism was up, it was not enough to offset the economic impact of Hurricane Matthew’s impact on the state, which will require more infrastructure investment.
Mr Johnson said that he was disappointed with the numbers.
“I’m disappointed in what we’ve seen this year, but I think we need to make sure that we’re taking some extra steps to help mitigate the impact on tourism,” he said.
Mr Murphy said he expected tourism to recover.
“There’s going to be some recovery from the impact of the hurricane, but tourism’s not going to go away,” he told the ABC.
He suggested that a combination of infrastructure investments, like the rebuilding of roads and bridges, could be part of the solution.
“The problem with all this is that we’ve got some of the worst infrastructure in the US, the worst roads in the world, and a highway system that’s the size of Rhode Island, and you’ve got to make some hard decisions to try to mitigate the impacts of the storm,” he added.
He urged people to take advantage of the opportunities that were available to them in the short term.
“That means taking a day trip, a weekend trip, maybe even an entire summer vacation,” he explained.
Mr Walsh said the state had been hit hard by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
Mr Kelly also said New Hampshire was still in the midst of the recovery from Hurricanes Irene and Andrew. “
But we’ve still got a lot of work to do.”

“We’ve got a long way to go,” he admitted.
