In Antarctica, there’s no denying that the vast expanses of ice are awe-inspiring, and the sheer number of things to see, hear and do in the frigid North Atlantic makes it all the more difficult to understand the sheer scope of the challenges.
However, if you have the funds, the best place to stay in Antarctica, according to a new study, is at the Hotel de la Ville in Antarctica’s South Pole.
In a research paper published on Monday, researchers from the University of California, Irvine, found that hotels in Antarctica had a greater chance of staying open 24 hours a day, and that the average stay for a stay of three nights was four nights.
The researchers, who included UCI Professor Mark Trenberth, used the hotel’s rooms to investigate the role that the hotel played in promoting tourism.
A hotel that is open 24/7, such as the Hotel De la Vile in Antarctica has a much higher likelihood of staying fully booked.
Hotel de l’Argentine, a hotel in the Beaufort Sea off the South Pole, also had a significant impact on tourism, with its rooms opening on time and regularly showing up on hotel websites, the researchers found.
A number of other hotels around the world also played a role in tourism, and hotel industry statistics show that many hotels around Antarctica still have the capacity to host up to 200 guests a day.
The Hotel de La Ville was one of the most popular hotels in the world to book, according the study, with visitors spending around $30 million a year at the hotel.
And because the hotel has a dedicated team of staff to keep it operating, the hotel is able to ensure that its rooms stay open 24-7, says Trenberg.
However he cautions that the findings of this study are only one example of the hotel industry in Antarctica.
“The hotels in this region are a huge industry, and their presence is still felt across Antarctica.
It’s not just the hotels that are responsible for keeping tourists interested in Antarctica,” he says.
“They’re also responsible for the tourism in the region, and I think that’s the real story of tourism in Antarctica.”
As well as providing visitors with a place to spend the night, the Hotel is a prime location for people to get a taste of Antarctica’s unique atmosphere, which is so cold that it has become known as “ice heaven”.
Trenbery says that the Antarctic’s unique air is the reason why tourists choose to visit the area, and also why people want to stay there long-term.
“We need to get to the bottom of why Antarctica is the place that it is, and how we’re doing in terms of managing the environment to make it suitable for human habitation,” he explains.
“So that’s one thing that we’re looking at, what are the systems we’re using to protect our environment, and what are we doing to try and keep it suitable.”
